Monster gamble alert: Horse backed from 11-1 into 2-1 in places at Hereford 🚨 📉

3.40 Hereford

Mr Mantilla has not been seen since running in the Festival Challenge Cup Hunters’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last year. That was his sole start under Rules and he ran OK in eighth on the day. Even though he has been off the track a long time, the weight of money on him this morning would seem to suggest that he is expected to run a huge race this afternoon.

Prolific in point-to-points in Ireland, winning five of his six starts between the flags, the Jeffreys-trained runner has been backed from a high of 11-1 all the way into 2-1 in places this morning. The biggest price available anywhere is 11-4 and he only has three rivals to beat. Connections must be confident that he will do the business today.

Given his experience over fences, it is a tad unusual that he will be making his debut over hurdles too today. In reality, he doesn’t have a whole lot to beat today. The Paul Nicholls runner Grace A Vous Enki pulled up last time out and Late Romantic was also pulled up last time out. The money could well be spot on.
