Dundalk Stadium

There’s always some fun to be had at Dundalk and there could be an extra dimension of interest to their eight-race card on Wednesday afternoon. One horse has been the subject of substantial and sustained market support throughout the morning and it’s certainly an interesting move. The horse in question’s form is nothing to write home about but has been backed into 12-1 from 50-1 nonetheless. We’ll take a detailed look at the horse’s profile below. 2.10 Dundalk

Figurehead is a seven-race maiden on the Flat and has failed to finish in the first three on every start. Michael Cleary’s seven-year-old has only beaten one rival home in his four starts on turf and has only faired marginally better on the all-weather.

There’s not much confidence to be gained from looking at his record over hurdles, where he’s also winless in 16 starts. He has however managed to make the frame four times in that sphere and his best effort was a three-quarter-length second in a Limerick maiden hurdle over two miles.

Despite the fact that his race record to date is pretty underwhelming, there appears to be some confidence from somewhere and the only way is up for this gelding. This is certainly a situation that could be worth keeping an eye on.

The best of his three runs on an artificial surface came over course and distance last month where he finished seventh and was less than three lengths behind the winner. If he can build on that effort, this gelding isn’t without a chance of at least making the frame.
