Major market mover: 22-1 shot backed into 7-1 at Newcastle on Wednesday

It’s always a good idea to keep a close eye on the markets as you can learn plenty from doing so. Although there are never any guarantees in this game, you can gage the level of confidence behind a horse. There is certainly a positive market move for one particular runner at Newcastle on Wednesday.

The horse in question was as big as 22-1 on Tuesday evening but sustained market support has collapsed its price into just 7-1. We’ll take a detailed look at the horse’s profile below. Why not check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

8.30 Newcastle

The concluding race of Newcastle’s eight-raced card is a competitive 7f handicap and Drakeholes has been backed as if a huge run is on the cards. Alison Hamilton’s five-year-old hasn’t been in the best of form so far in 2024 but the market confidence suggests that could be about to change.

Drakeholes has only won one race to date and that came over course and distance in a novice event back in December 2022. It’s fair to say it was an impressive one, as he pulled well clear to win by a wide margin despite idling in the closing stages.

His performances since have been a little underwhelming and he didn’t show a great deal here over 6f last time out. The handicapper has since dropped him to a mark of 52 however and if going back to 7f here can facilitate a performance anywhere near the level of his sole victory, a return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out off this mark.
