Jockey to follow: Frankie Dettori’s farewell tour could be in for a good week 👋

Royal Ascot 2018 Day 3

This is an important week of racing, with Chester‘s May Festival taking place over the next few days and Lingfield’s classic trials on Saturday. We should have a much clearer picture for the Derby and the Oaks by the end of the week. Frankie Dettori could be the jockey to follow this week, having tasted classic glory in the 2000 Guineas on Saturday.

The Italian has some interesting rides already booked at Chester on Wednesday and he could get off to a flyer. He’s being very selective of his rides this week and this makes every one of them noteworthy. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Chester (Wednesday)

Luckin Brew was second in a Listed race over a mile when last seen and the fact that her full-sister won a Group 3 over 1m4f suggests she could be a useful sort over middle-distances this term. There should be plenty more to come from her and it’s unlikely that we’ve seen the best of her yet. Partially owned by Coolmore’s Michael Tabor, Dettori will be keen to impress aboard this filly. This is Dettori’s first ride of the week and he could well make it a winning one.

Arrest was a narrow second in a Group 1 over 1m2f as a juvenile so this extended 1m4f trip should be right up his street. He was an impressive winner under a penalty at Ffos Las on his penultimate start and the second boosted the form by winning next time out. This isn’t the first time Dettori has ridden this colt, as he rode him on debut and won on him at Sandown in August. The ratings suggest he’s comfortably the best horse in the race and he should prove it.

Later this week

Dettori’s riding plans for the rest of the week haven’t been confirmed as of yet but you can tell that he’s determined not to waste any ammunition. His confidence will be high after riding Chaldean to victory in his final ride in the 2000 Guineas on Saturday. With several high-profile meetings to ride at this weekend, all eyes will be on Dettori, wherever he ends up.
