ITV Outsiders: Four tips from Newmarket and Cheltenham including a 40/1 shot

There’s some quality racing on offer across both codes on Wednesday, with Newmarket‘s Craven meeting continuing and some competitive jumping action at Cheltenham. It’s therefore no surprise that the ITV cameras are out once again and six races will be shown on terrestrial television.

This provides plenty of opportunities for an each-way play and we have you covered! We’ve selected four outsiders that have been overlooked by the market and can outrun their prices. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.05 Cheltenham

Peking Rose won off this mark on good ground at Doncaster on his penultimate start and looks overpriced as a result. Fergal O’Brien’s gelding didn’t get home over three miles at Musselburgh last time out so he should appreciate the drop back in trip. Quicker ground will also suit and it would be dangerous to rule out a big run here.

2.25 Newmarket

Whip Cracker is a thoroughly unknown quantity which makes him a fascinating runner in this Listed race. He faces a significant step up in grade here but after his six-length demolition job at Chelmsford when last seen, you certainly can’t blame connections. Obviously improvement will be needed but this is just his third start and he’s entitled to find plenty.

2.40 Cheltenham

Gemirande has only had two starts so far this season and he was far from disgraced when fifth in the Grand Annual here last time out. Venetia Williams’ eight-year-old was third in this race last year and it’s hard not to fancy him off a 4lb lower mark here. This horse simply has to be well handicapped and a big run could be on the cards.

3.00 Newmarket

Claymore is a useful horse on his day and is certainly capable of outrunning these odds. A winner at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old, he also ran a fair race in the Winter Derby at Southwell earlier this year. It was a below-par effort on All-Weather Championships Day at Newcastle last time but running in a handicap probably wasn’t ideal for this 103-rated horse. Much better is expected this time around.
