‘It’s Group wins or bust’ – Frankie Dettori’s sole ride at York on Wednesday is 16-1 🥇

Frankie and Enable at York

Frankie Dettori’s farewell tour is in full swing and it’s been going very well so far. The veteran jockey has already tasted Classic success in the 2000 Guineas and he scooped the Chester Vase last week. He continues to ride sparingly, which suggests there’s confidence behind every one of his mounts. In his 10 rides in the last fortnight, Dettori has ridden two winners and they’ve come in Group 1 and Group 3 company. This means it’s Group wins or bust for Frankie and he’s seeking more success this week.

Dettori goes to York on Wednesday for Day 1 of the Dante meeting for just one ride. The horse in question is 16-1 and Dettori will be seeking more Classic trial glory. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.35 York

Soul Sister got off the mark on her debut at Doncaster over a mile in October. She showed plenty of stamina that day and did all her best work late on. The form of that race gives mixed messages but the fifth won impressively next time out and the seventh has since won twice in France.

Last seen in a Group 3 over 7f, it has to be said that she was a disappointing last of 12 runners. Going down in trip definitely didn’t suit her and it’s easy to see why. Stamina won the day at Doncaster and her pedigree tells us her future belongs over further. Going up to an extended 1m2f is likely to be right up her street and she should improve physically, with the benefit of having a run under her belt.

It’s also worth noting that Dettori had five winners from 16 rides at York last season, giving him a 31 per cent strike-rate, which is very healthy indeed. The filly’s disappointing effort last time does explain her price here but we should see a much more competitive horse this time around.
