Irish trainer sends two horses from Cork on an 810-mile round trip to Worcester 🚛

Situated in Lombardstown just a stones throw from Cork Racecourse lies the yard of Eugene O’Sullivan. The trainer, who has always been prolific on the point to point circuit in Ireland, is an absolute master of his craft.

It has to be hugely interesting that O’Sullivan sends two horses all the way from Cork in the south west of Ireland across to Worcester Racecourse on Wednesday. That journey is a staggering 810 mile round trip via Dublin.

With soaring fuel and living costs, when you travel that far you surely only go there with intent. Let’s take a look at the two horses in question now.

1.00 Worcester

Richie McLernon is aboard his first runner of the day, the top weight Hazran. This horse has not been seen for 407 days but he brings a good level of Irish form to the table. He won a Wexford maiden hurdle in October 2020, beating horses that are now rated in the 120s and 130s. Given he races off just 112 here, he could be thrown in. A winner on the flat at Killarney last year, he was last seen finishing second over fences at Limerick and if he is fit he is a fascinating contender.

2.30 Worcester

Likely to open a big enough price, Dream Getaway is making her first start under rules here. She is to some fair staying hurdlers and her dam was also a stayer so there’s plenty of stamina in the pedigree. Whether the two miles is on the sharp side or not for her we will soon find out, but she is a fascinating contender. It would be ominous if we saw any money for this horse in the market.
