Irish trainer Anthony McCann sends two on the 580-mile round trip to Wolverhampton

Monaghan-based trainer Anthony McCann wouldn’t be known for sending too many horses across the water, although he has sent 11 runners across to Wolverhampton this year and two of them have won.

It has to be interesting that the handler will send two horses on the 580-mile round trip to Wolverhampton Racecourse on Tuesday from his base in Castleblaney.

7.30 Wolverhampton

The first runner of the evening for McCann runs in the 0-60 handicap, a low grade affair over the extended two miles and the horse in question is Liquid Metric, with Billy Loughnane booked for the ride. This horse was sent off 200/1 for a Dundalk handicap over two miles when last seen and was beaten 22 lengths back in eighth. He was rated as high as 76 on the all-weather when trained in Britain by James Horton, and he runs off 54 here, but that’s the only positive we can find with regard to his chances.

8.00 Wolverhampton

Billy Loughnane will also ride McCann’s other runner on the card, and Muhalhel certainly has much better claims than his stablemate. His last three runs have been here at this track, finishing third twice over course and distance with a second over slightly shorter sandwiched in between. He’s entitled to run a good race yet again from his basement mark of 46 and he should get a good early position coming from stall one.
