Horses for courses: Four Southwell specialists form a Lucky 15 on Thursday 🍀

Course form is a very important factor that needs to be considered when trying to pick a winner. Southwell is a track which has historically produced a high number of course specialists. With this in mind, we’ve picked out four horses running there on Thursday with proven records at the track and combined them into a Lucky 15. 3.38 Southwell

Tyke is unbeaten in two starts over course and distance and is lightly raced on the all-weather. The most recent of those victories came on his penultimate start, scoring narrowly off a 4lb lower mark. Mick Appleby’s charge wasn’t suited by the trip when below-par over 7f last time out. Now returning to Southwell and 6f, much better is expected here.

4.10 Southwell

Exalted Angel has failed to finish outside of the first two in four starts here, including two victories. Karl Burke’s charge returned to form with a solid third in a Listed race over 6f at Lingfield last time out. The return to 5f isn’t a problem and he should run his race once again. Burke is operating at a strike-rate of 27 per cent in the last fortnight and that bodes well for Exalted Angel’s chances.

4.45 Southwell

Ustath has won here no fewer than seven times, which equates to 78 per cent of his career victories. The last of those came by the narrowest of margins off a 1lb lower mark back in February. His overall form suggests that the return to 5f won’t be a problem, on his first start since April.

6.15 Southwell

Bay Of Naples has scored three times at Southwell, whilst his rivals have all failed to do so once. This gives him a significant advantage going into the race. Michael Herrington’s seven-year-old was third over course and distance back in September and he should go close once again, off a 1lb lower mark.
