Horse and owners with 100 per cent record at Chester aim for Wednesday glory

Chester Racecourse

The Chester May Meeting is a fabulous few days of racing and if you haven’t had an opportunity to get yourself to it in person, it is certainly recommended to do so.

Chester is a walled cathedral city on the River Dee, close to the border with Wales. On a sunny day it is absolutely glorious with stunning architecture and a real hive of activity about the place.

The track itself is only a short walk from the city centre. Anyways moving on to the more serious stuff, a horse runs at the track tomorrow that is of serious interest.

Owners Sue Cronshaw and Karen Bennett had a 100 per cent strike-rate at Chester in 2020 with their horse, Harmony Lil. She is back for more in 2021 and it might take a good one to stop her.

Trainer to be feared on the Roodee

It has been a very quiet start to 2021 for trainer Tom Dascombe with just five winners from 68 runners to date. He targets the Chester May Meeting every year though and will have his string spot on for this week.

Last year, he saddled five winners to success at this track which culminated in a 19 per cent strike-rate. He bids to get the week off to a flyer with Harmony Lil and Jane Elliott is in the saddle.

The Kodi Bear filly impressed when winning here over 6f in novice company last September, having to overcome gate six which was widest of all on that occasion

She then stepped into handicap company for the first time over 6f in late-September. From a mark of 73 and a not so favourable draw in gate seven of the nine runners, she again got the job done narrowly.

On her comeback at Ripon last month, she impressed with her runner-up finish and she is now only 5lb higher than when successful here last year. Drawn in stall five, she must have massive claims dropping down to the minimum for the first time.
