Henry de Bromhead attacks Sandown with strong 16-1 double

Henry De Bromhead

Henry de Bromhead has enjoyed a standout season, dominating Cheltenham and becoming the first trainer to win the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Gold Cup at the same Festival. That was followed up in the biggest race of them all, the Grand National. Minella Times lead home a de Bromhead one-two and he bids to end the season in style at Sandown.

Irish trainers have dominated the big British races another Grade 1 could be heading back to County Waterford. de Bromhead has a pair of strong chances and that form a well-fancied 16-1 double. Find out all the details below and make sure to check out of horse racing tips too!

3.05 Sandown – Put The Kettle On

A dual Cheltenham Festival winner, Put The Kettle On looks to cap off a fine season for the One For Luck Racing Syndicate. de Bromhead’s star mare has won two of her three starts this term, latterly toughing it out to win the Champion Chase. That brought her Cheltenham record to four from four and she’ll be hoping to transfer her top level form to Sandown.

That will be the concern for many, but parallels can be drawn between Sandown and Cheltenham. This mares strengths lie in her jumping and Sandown is a notoriously tricky venue with lots of testing fences, not least the Railways down the back straight. It also has a stiff finish, like Cheltenham, and that will play to her prime attributes. Receiving seven pounds from her rivals, she’s an obvious player.

3.40 Sandown – Plan Of Attack

He’s winless since October 2019, but Plan Of Attack has excellent claims in the bet365 Gold Cup. Pulling up on his opening two starts of the season, he finished an eye-catching eighth in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown over Christmas. Close-up in the early stages, he lost his position four fences from home before staying on again in the closing stages.

That was over three miles and stepped up to 3m 2f at the Festival, he was still tanking along when falling three-out. He races off the same rating today and stretching out even further in distance promises to help matters. Rachael Blackmore travels over to take the ride and that could prove very telling. Conditions are to suit and despite this being a competitive heat, he deserves to be favourite.
