‘He goes through soft ground like it’s good’ – Trainer confident of huge National run

The Aintree Grand National Festival is now just days away, and there’s no better place to find all of your tips for the action than at myracing so make sure you tune in each and every day. With the Grand National itself only six days away, one trainer was very bullish when speaking about his horse’s chances.

John McConnell talks up Mahler Mission’s chances

Speaking on Luck On Sunday, Mahler Mission’s trainer John McConnell stated that the ground shouldn’t be a problem for his horse if it turns up soft on Saturday: “He goes through soft like it’s good”, he said.

Also interviewed recently, he said: “”If we get there it will be our first runner, so it will be a big day for us all.

“We’re not going to change anything that’s not broken so Ben will ride him. Mahler Mission looks like he has the right kind of profile for it, so it will be exciting.

“It will probably be our biggest day, we’ve had a nice bit of success, but if we could pull this off it will be a huge moment in both our careers.

“He’s probably the best horse I’ve had and in terms of rating he is anyway. I do think we haven’t yet seen the best of him and for sure he is definitely one of our stars.”

“To potentially have a runner with a chance is huge. I have always loved the National and it would mean an awful lot to me and in regards my team, they do all the hard work, so for everyone involved it would be massive for them.”
