Ground is key: three horses who will love fast ground at York on Wednesday

We have had a good spell of weather in Britain this week so the ground at York Racecourse is forecasted to be good to firm with some good in places to get the Ebor Festival started. ITV Racing action gets under way there at 1.50pm on Wednesday and Adrian Wall has found three horses that should all relish the fast conditions. Please note that the ground can change rapidly so be sure to check that the ground is still fast come post time before you place your bets.

1.50 York

In the competitive opening handicap, it might be worth siding with the top weight Equilateral, even if he does have his quirks. Charles Hills’ runner hasn’t run in a handicap since January 2021, and he won that day in Meydan off 110 and is now 5lb lower in the weights in Britain. This lad absolutely loves fast ground and being a multiple winner on good to firm ground, he ticks boxes dropping down in class.

2.25 York

Just the six runners are set to go to post for the Group 3 Acomb Stakes, ad at a price it might be worth having a small nibble on the Eve Johnson Houghton runner, Indian Run. This colt is the only horse of the six to have placed on good to firm and he was a fine winner of a maiden at Ascot when last seen.

3.00 York

Current St Leger favourite Gregory is putting his unbeaten record on the line, but already twice a winner on good to firm ground, he is going to have to underperform to get beat one would think. He won a Group 2 at Ascot when last seen over 1m6f, and although the drop back in trip probably isn’t ideal, he should have the class to win.
