Gordon Elliott sends a very rare runner to Goodwood on Friday and it’s 12-1 🤔

It has been a good week for Gordon Elliott as he claimed victory in the Galway Plate on Wednesday. The team will take plenty of confidence from that and they will be hungry for more success. Elliott has had just two unsuccessful previous runners at Goodwood during his career but that could be about to change.

He’s set to have one runner at the Sussex track on Friday which is 12-1 at time of writing. Joe Fanning takes the ride and it could well be third time lucky for the Elliott yard. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.50 Goodwood

Tronador (12-1, William Hill) is set to run in the opening race of the card, the Goodwood Handicap over an extended 2m4f. Elliott’s charge is no stranger to Britain and won a valuable handicap over 2m4f at the Aintree Grand National meeting back in 2021. On that evidence, he’s pretty much guaranteed to get the trip which will give him a huge advantage over most in this field.

He was an easy winner over 2m1f at Limerick on his last Flat start and appears here off a 10lb higher mark. It’s worth noting that the form of that race has been boosted by the second who went on to win its next start by four lengths.

The experienced Joe Fanning has been riding out of his skin this season and has a total of 58 winners so far. He’s set to take the ride and that also bodes well for Tronador’s chances. It will require a career-best if he’s to win here but there’s plenty in his favour and victory certainly shouldn’t be ruled out.
