Watching the markets can be a sensible move as a lot can be learnt from doing so. The market watchers among us will be alerted to the fact that there’s a major move happening. There’s a substantial gamble underway at Catterick on Wednesday morning as one runner was available at a massive 20-1 on Tuesday evening and is now just 5-1. Significant improvement will be required for the horse in question to pull it off. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.13 Catterick

Line Of Descent (5-1, William Hill) is the subject of this major gamble and the four-year-old is trained by Warren Greatrex. James Bowen takes the ride which is a positive sign as he’s a quality booking who has travelled a long way to take the ride. This horse was pretty disappointing in a weak race last time out when finishing seventh, 18 lengths behind the winner.

The best he has managed in his five hurdles starts is a 16-length third in a maiden hurdle at Hereford. He has struggled in handicaps so far, being beaten by a total of 82 lengths in three starts in that sphere. Improvement is definitely needed in order to feature here, on all known evidence. Dropping back in trip could well suit as he hasn’t stayed over longer trips.

Connections and backers will be hoping that the switch to fences can facilitate plenty of improvement but they’re not guaranteed to suit. Bred for the flat, he wasn’t produced with fences in mind and consequently they are unlikely to come naturally to him.

Hope remains always however and he’s still a young horse. This means that there’s a high chance we’re yet to see the best of him and there could be more to come.
