Watching the market can be a successful technique for finding winners. Although as with all betting there are no guarantees, there are plenty of big gambles that come off. Trainer Mark Michael McNiff trains just fifteen minutes up the road from Sligo at Strandhill, Co. Sligo. It therefore wouldn’t be a surprise if the Lake Isle Of Innisfree Handicap is a big target for Red Ball Of Fire. The gamble taking a place isn’t an insignificant one and the five-year-old mare’s best price is 2-1 at time of writing having been available at 6-1 last night.

She was third here last month off a mark of 61. That was an encouraging effort especially as the handicapper lowered her turf mark by 3lb as a consequence. It was also a good effort last time out over hurdles when finishing second to a useful horse at Downpatrick. These two latest efforts would indicate that she’s ready to win and if building on them, a big run here could certainly be on the cards.

There’s enough form in the book to justify some of the interest in this mare so this isn’t the most outlandish plot of all time. One thing is for sure, there will be many people watching with keen interest as the big gamble unfolds.
