The St Leger Festival doesn’t have the same international appeal as some of the major festivals but it has drawn the attention of three Irish trainers on Friday. These three trainers are sending four runners over to Doncaster between them and they could be worth keeping an eye on. With this in mind, we’ve taken a good look at the three who have the biggest chance. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Magnum Force was narrowly beaten over 6f at Naas on debut and went one better when scoring comfortably over the minimum trip at Cork after that. Ger Lyons’ colt then came over to York for the Listed Rose Stakes, where he was unlucky not to win. Finishing second by a neck, he didn’t get a run until too late and it’s easy to makes a case for him here on that evidence.
Point Lonsdale is probably better of shorter and he bolted up in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester in May. A solid third in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud after that, he clearly possesses a fair amount of ability. If he can prove his stamina over this longer trip there’s no doubt he’s good enough to come out on top.
Whirl is one of three runners who have run previously and she’s the pick of the bunch. The form of her debut fourth at the Curragh looks very solid and her run at York next time was therefore a little disappointing. All experience is good experience however and this impeccably bred filly will be winning races once the penny drops.
