Five NAPs for five days: one very strong fancy for every day of Royal Ascot 🎩

Royal Ascot 2017 Day 5

Royal Ascot kicks off on Tuesday and the five-day bonanza should have plenty of competitive action. The ante-post markets are still going strong so Liam Bramall has picked out a NAP for each day of the Royal Meeting. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing. Please remember to gamble responsibly and good luck if you have a bet.

Coventry Stakes (Tuesday)

River Tiber (11-4, William Hill) has looked awesome in two starts so far. Aidan O’Brien’s colt bolted up on debut at Navan, winning by a massive 10 lengths. He followed that up with a solid performance at Naas and he looks more than ready for the step up to Group level.

Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (Wednesday)

Luxembourg (2-1, bet365) bounced back from a below-par display on seasonal reappearance to win a very hot renewal of the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh last time. His three-year-old campaign was disrupted by injury last year but he showed himself to be out of the very top drawer when winning the Irish Champion Stakes. Desert Crown is a notable absentee in this race and Luxembourg should take full advantage.

Gold Cup (Thursday)

Coltrane (3-1, Paddy Power) just makes sense for this race. One of few guaranteed stayers, he began the season with an excellent performance at Ascot in Group 3 company. That performance last time indicated that he could be better than ever this year. You could certainly do worse than side with this very solid contender.

Commonwealth Cup (Friday)

Little Big Bear (15-8, Coral) was devastating in the Phoenix Stakes over 6f last year and bounced back from 2000 Guineas disappointment with an excellent win at Haydock. There are very few negatives attached to this horse and his chances are crystal-clear.

Hardwicke Stakes (Saturday)

Hukum (9-4, bet365) did very well to depose 2022’s Derby Hero Desert Crown at Sandown last time out. It was his first start since bolting up in the Coronation Cup 356 days earlier. Improvement can be expected as he should come on for the run. There are no standout dangers at the top of the market and he should prove hard to beat.
