Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips

At myracing we will be covering every speck of Royal Ascot 2021 bringing Royal Ascot tips for all 35 races across the five-day meeting. Be sure to check out our designated Royal Ascot tips pages for each of the other days right here  Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips, Royal Ascot Day 2 Tips, Royal Ascot Day 3 Tips & Royal Ascot Day 5 Tips.

Day 4 opens with the Albany Stakes. A six-furlong group 3 open to two-year-old fillies, the Albany Stakes is fast and frenetic and no stranger to a turnup with many big priced winners in recent years. One of the strongest trends in the Albany Stakes has been the draw, with each of the last ten winners breaking from stall 12 or higher.

Day four continues with the King Edward VII Stakes, a Group 2 run over 1m4f for three-year-old colts.

The Commonwealth Cup is the highlight of Royal Ascot day 4 and is the sole Group 1 race on the day. Introduced in 2015 the Commonwealth is run over six furlongs and open exclusively to three-year-old horses. Fillies receive a 3lb weight allowance over colts but in the five runnings of the Commonwealth Cup, only one filly has managed to triumph with Quiet Reflection winning in 2016.

The Coronation Stakes is open to three-year-old fillies and run over a distance of one mile.

Next up at Royal Ascot is the Sandringham Stakes run over the same conditions as the Britannia Stakes, but this time open to three-year-old fillies. With the similar difficulties of a huge field size and Ascot’s straight mile, it can also be a tricky betting heat, as shown by the 2019 winner Thanks Be, who was steered home by Hayley Turner at 33/1 to become the first female jockey to ride a winner at Royal Ascot since Gay Kellaway in 1987. Favourites have had better luck here in the last decade than in the Britannia Stakes, however, with four coming home in front.

The Duke of Edinburgh Handicap follows next, a 1m4f race open to horses aged three-years-old and up. This contest takes on extra poignancy this year after the death of Prince Philip.

Day four will this year have the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes run as the final race. The 5f handicap for three-year-olds was run for the first time at last year’s meeting where Art Power stormed to an impressive victory before winning a Group 3 and placing in two Group 1s later in the season.
