The Punchestown Festival is the last National Hunt meeting before the Flat takes over and it kicks off on Tuesday. There are eight races to look forward to on Day 1, including three Grade 1s, and it should be thoroughly entertaining. We’ve picked out three potentially overpriced outsiders to follow and they include a 66/1 shot taking on the Ryanair and Champion Chase winners. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Camino Rock (40/1, bet365) finished third in a qualifier for this race at Gowran in February and arrives here on a 1lb higher mark. Mouse Morris’ gelding has won over an extended three miles and will be staying on well if this race becomes a stiff test of stamina. You can put a line through his latest effort and the return to handicaps is likely to suit.
Samui (20/1, bet365) got the better of Cheltenham Festival winner Jazzy Matty at Naas in January and a 4lb higher mark should be manageable. His jumping fell apart in the Coral Cup last time out and this is a much easier task. Gordon Elliott’s runner stayed well on the Flat and his jockey takes 7lb off here.
Senecia (66/1, bet365) got the better of El Fabiolo in a Grade 2 last time out so don’t write him off. Vincent Halley’s stable star was a close third behind Found A Fifty and Solness in the Fortria Chase at Navan in November and that form suggests he could be overpriced. King George winner Banbridge was 27 lengths behind him that day and he’s not without a chance.
