Cheltenham Showcase Meeting Day 2 Preview: Cheltenham Tips, Odds, Trends and free bets

Modus beats Duke Of Navan at Cheltenham

The first Saturday of the season at Cheltenham is a day to savour for racing fans. There are seven races to get stuck into for clues to the Festival back there in March. The Conditional won the 3.50 on the card in 2019 before claiming the Ultima so there are winners in waiting.

There are four races live on ITV Racing on the card, with all seven covered on RacingTV. You can also catch the action on bookmakers apps with a qualifying bet.

We will have free tips for every meeting during the 2020/21 season at Cheltenham.

2.05

John McConnell won this two years ago with a similar type to ANNA BUNINA and can do so again. A couple of these like to go from the front which means she will get a nice pace to chase, with it looking probable that connections have had this race ringed in the calendar for a while.

2.40

He gives up chasing experience to his rivals but PILEON still looks the way to go here. He is the least exposed in this field and has achieved plenty in a short time. Runner-up in the Martin Pipe at the Festival in March, he shapes as if he will make a better chaser.

3.15

This course brings out the best in TOBEFAIR who won this race last year. He kept warmer company than this afterwards and has the added benefit of a five-pound claimer here to ease his burden. He rarely runs a bad race and should be right in the mix once more.

3.50

This track has seen some solid runs from COBRA DE MAI in the past, including when not beaten far in the Ultima in March from a two-pound higher mark. The ground will have been soft enough for him that day and he has taken to needing his reappearance in recent years so he should come on plenty for his return.

4.25

This could be another for John McConnell with STREETS OF DOYEN. These all have improvement to come from them but with wins already over this trip and the additional benefit of having taken on handicap company and had to get into battles, Streets Of Doyen can make full use of his street smarts.

5.00

He only has a single win to his credit so far but BOUGHTBEFORELUNCH has been running consistently well in similar races. He has been capable off higher marks in the past and was entitled to need his return to action when fading late on.

5.35

Despite being beaten on debut, SHANTOU’S MELODY shaped as the best in that field, running too green under pressure late on. This stiffer track should bring out the best in him and his dam had her best day in the sun at this track.
