The Cheltenham Festival finally kicks off on Tuesday and the racing world is expecting it to be the Willie Mullins show once again. Mullins will want to get off to the perfect start and the bookies will run for cover if he does. We’ve combined his four best chances on Day 1 into an accumulator which is worth considering. Check out our free tips page for free tips for every race at Cheltenham.
Mystical Power (4-1, bet365) is unbeaten in three starts so far and two of those have come over hurdles. He was impressive in the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown last time out and a fast pace should help him to settle. This horse has the best pedigree you could possibly ask for and is also our Nap of the day.
State Man (1-3, bet365) has only been defeated once in his last eight starts and that came at the hands of Constitution Hill. That horse won’t be lining up here, leaving the door wide open for State Man to take the Champion Hurdle crown. He’s been in imperious form so far this season and the argument could be made that he has improved since last year.
Lossiemouth (4-6, William Hill) absolutely bolted up when thrashing some fair performers in a Grade 2 here on trials day. That performance confirmed all the promise she showed as a juvenile hurdler last season and she’s entitled to take a step forward here. The Mullins camp are very confident that she’s the real deal and anything other than victory would be disappointing.
Embassy Gardens (9-4, William Hill) has made a fine start to his chasing career and managed to win first time out when most of the yard’s runners were needing their first runs. He backed that up with an impressive performance in a Grade 3 at Naas over 3m1f last time and he looks tailor-made for this race. The atmosphere got to him at last year’s Festival and the hood could help to keep him calm.
