Breeders’ Cup Day 2 Tips: US expert Owen Goulding covers every televised race

Enable: started her stunning career with a victory at Newcastle

The Breeders’ Cup continues on Saturday with nine championship races. The feature contest is the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, with the Breeders’ Cup Turf and Breeders’ Cup Distaff part of the supporting cast. myracing has horse racing tips for all races, which will be broadcast live on ITV4. Find our selections below.

7.40 Del Mar – Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint

Early pace could be essential to winning the ITV opener and the well-drawn Lieutenant Dan, who has won all three of his 2021 starts. A versatile sprinter, he stays further, but he has plenty of early dash and he can use post four to gain a handy position under Geovanni Franco. He can track the early pace of Golden Pal and surge to the lead late on.

8.19 Del Mar – Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile

It’s very difficult to oppose Life Is Good, whose sole defeat came narrowly to the smart Jackie’s Warrior in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial. He flaunted his exceptional front-running ability when going from gate to wire in the Kelso Handicap at Belmont last time and if he runs up to his best figures, these rivals will be unable to bother him in deep stretch.

8.59 Del Mar – Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf

Winning six of her seven career starts, War Like Goddess has gone from strength to strength in 2021. She successfully stepped up into Grade 1 when landing the Flower Bowl at Saratoga last time, pulling clear in comfortable fashion. She is the total package and although she’ll have to do things the hard way from off the pace, her devastating turn of foot will be difficult to contain.

9.38 Del Mar – Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint

Defeating Life Is Good to land the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial two starts ago, Jackie’s Warrior should be up to taking this field from gate to wire. She’s the perfect fit for this race, as she has plenty of tactical speed, but also stays further and has a very game attitude. Drawn just one away from the plastic, she can break quickly and if she turns in front, she won’t be for catching.

10.20 Del Mar – FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile

Given how head strong he can be, this type of scenario should suit Master Of The Seas. Although two recent performances have been a shade below his best, a second in the 2000 Guineas back in May proves that he has the class for this. The inside post should allow James Doyle to sit close to a strong pace and if the gap appears at the perfect time, he can swoop late for Godolphin success.

11.00 Del Mar – Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff

Finishing in the show in good races on multiple occasions in 2021, Clairiere deservedly forced her head in front at Grade 1 level at Parx last time. She’ll need to up her game once more to be winning a top-level Grade 1, but she’s extremely consistent and has finished outside the top three just once in nine starts. She’ll get the pace she needs to close late on and you’d have to fancy her chances of reaching the frame once more.

11.40 Del Mar – Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf

This test looks ideal for the globetrotting Walton Street, who transitioned to North American racing with aplomb when decimating the Canadian International Stakes field at Woodbine in September. His tactical speed won him the day, able to track a breakaway leader before surging clear in the stretch. He’s the oldest horse in the race, but he’s in career-best form and regardless of the pace scenario, James Doyle will be able to sit handy on this uncomplicated seven-year-old. It’s difficult to see a scenario where he doesn’t reach the frame.

00.40 Del Mar – Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic

A four-time Grade 1 winner, Essential Quality suffered his sole defeat when fourth in the Kentucky Derby earlier this year. There was no disgrace in that defeat and he’s quickly made amends since, winning the Belmont, Jim Dandy and Travers Stakes. His winning margins are perhaps not impressive, but he only does just enough and that usually plays into his hands. He’s thoroughly versatile, which gives Luis Saez plenty of options, and he can cap off the year as a champion.
