Big chance? Emmet Mullins sends one horse over to Bangor on Monday

Leading Irish trainer Emmet Mullins knows the time of day when it comes to landing winners in Britain! After all, he has trained a Grand National winner. It has to be interesting that he sends one runner to Bangor in Wales on Monday and the horse in question has a huge chance, at least on paper. 5.30 Bangor

The horse in question will run in the familiar light blue colours of the Byrne’s, and Slate Lane looks like an interesting proposition tackling handicaps for the first time. This horse had three runs for Paul Hennessy before being moved to the Mullins yard, and he couldn’t have been more impressive on his first run for his new yard.

Sent off a heavily backed favourite on the day, the gelding won a 2m6f Cartmel maiden hurdle by 10 lengths on soft ground in June. It could have been 20 lengths if the horse wasn’t nearly carried off the track, which would have made him a desperately unlucky loser on the day.

We will have to see how well Slate Lane handles a quicker surface, but Bangor is another track that suits a horse that likes to race prominently and it would be no surprise to see Mullins tell jockey Donagh Meyler to go out and try make all here after the incident at Cartmel the last day.

If he stays out of trouble on handicap debut, then he could be really hard to beat from an opening mark of 103. Best of luck if you have a bet on the horse.
