1.50 York

He might be rather exposed now and his form figures around here have not been the best but Restorer has each-way claims in the opening handicap. The Dr Marwan Koukash-owned nine-year-old gelding was a big eye-catcher at Ascot this month, keeping on into third when travelling powerfully into the race. He was more than six lengths clear of the fourth that day so the form looks pretty strong. A winner of handicaps off 97 and 95 in the past, a mark of 94 should not be beyond him and there is no reason why he can’t get involved in the finish with conditions to suit.

3.35 York

There are at least five confirmed front runners in this year’s Nunthorpe and it is likely that they will all cut each other’s throats up front. With that in mind, Jamie Spencer will surely be licking his lips thinking about his ride on the hold up merchant Arecibo. Robert Cowell’s sprinter very nearly took advantage of a pace collapse in the King’s Stand where he finished a staying-on second behind Oxted and this race could be set up perfectly for him again. He’s no superstar but when a race falls apart he is the type that could take full advantage.
