‘A first turf win beckons’ – Liam Bramall’s 28/1 outsider of the day at Goodwood

Frankie Dettori and Too Darn Hot land the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood 2019

There’s some competitive handicap action at Goodwood on Friday and the feature race on the card is a Listed event. Liam Bramall has taken a close look at the card and selected a huge outsider that could be overpriced. Our Nap of the day also runs at Goodwood and we think it can run a massive race. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.10 Goodwood

Hieronymus is undoubtedly a better horse on an artificial surface and all four of his career victories have come on the all-weather. The handicapper knows that however and one day he’ll take advantage of the fact that his turf mark is 4lb lower.

George Baker’s eight-year-old has finished second four times on the grass and it was a more than reasonable effort when filling the runner-up spot at Ascot in October. This race might be easier and he should be competitive off a 2lb higher mark with that in mind.

The son of Dutch Art was most recently victorious at Kempton in February so he clearly hasn’t forgotten how to win. He was beaten by a head over course and distance off this mark back in July 2021. Surely a first turf win beckons if producing a similar effort here.

Nap of the Day

Vino Victrix is pretty well handicapped on his best form and he was a decent fourth over course and distance in September and now finds himself on a 3lb lower mark. It’s also worth noting that he won here off a 1lb higher mark back in August 2022 and he should be bang in the mix.
