3.10 Gowran Park

Hollywood West has shown very little in recent starts to suggest that he is about to get himself into the winner’s enclosure. However, a huge gamble from 50-1 into 8-1 this morning would suggest that someone out there thinks differently. Trained by Helen Markham, the six-year-old son of Westerner drops back down to 2m4f after being pulled up over further last time at Punchestown.

This horse’s best run came on heavy ground so the fact the ground is bottomless today might be at least one positive. That career best run was also here at this track when second in a maiden hurdle over 2m here this time last year. Maybe the return to this track combined with the ground and now a career-low mark give connections cause for enthusiasm.

At the time of writing this post, bet365 are the only firm sticking their neck out and they go 16-1. This is double the price that some other bookmakers are offering. He looks like a risky betting proposition but there is no doubt that he has seen significant support today.
