336/1 Sunday Acca for jockey who’s +£92.16 at Southwell in his career

Southwell Racecourse

Options for Sunday’s racing are limited but Southwell and Exeter hold down the fort. Ben Curtis has had five winners in ten rides on the Fibresand so far in 2021 and will be looking to add to that 50% strike rate with four rides on the card which combine for a 336/1 acca.

Curtis has a remarkable record at this track throughout his entire career. If a punter had placed a pound on every horse Curtis has ever ridden on the Fibresand here, they would have seen a profit of £92.14. That’s a remarkable stat for any jockey on any track. We will have free horse racing tips for every race on the card at Southwell as well as breaking down the four rides of Ben Curtis below.

There are few yards in better form than Mark Johnston at present and his Desert Boots lines up here. A winner from two pounds lower at Lingfield last month, he should appreciate the return to this trip having tried a mile on his Fibresand debut last time out.

The market would suggest that Ravenscar is the best chance of a winner on the card for Curtis. She was a length ahead of Severus Alexander over this course and distance a week ago, taking that rival on once again here. That was her first try on Fibresand and a career-best so she will form the cornerstone of many a Sunday acca.

Curtis has an interesting ride in this on Lion’s Vigil for Richard Fahey. Cheekpieces helped him on handicap debut at Ripon, producing his best effort and he has plenty of winners on a synthetic surface in his pedigree. He’s by far the least exposed in this field which looks another plus for him.

He is not the most straightforward but Rayyan clearly has a decent engine under the bonnet. He has a nasty habit of hanging to the left under pressure, even when tried in headgear last time. If he can grow out of that and stay straight, it’s easy to see him being a good bit better than his current mark.
