233/1 Doyle Double at the International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley

Hollie Doyle wins on Gallaside

We can look forward to three meetings on Wednesday from the UK shores, with Lingfield, Hexham and Kempton staging the action. We’ll have horse racing tips for all three, but there’s international action that will take centre stage in the morning.

Happy Valley plays host to the the International Jockeys’ Championship on Wednesday, with an all-star cast of twelve superstar jockeys vying for a share of the HK$800,000 prize. With past winners including Ryan Moore, Zac Purton, Hugh Bowman and Silvestre De Sousa, it shows the calibre of jockey required.

There are four championship races, with points awarded as follows:

  • 1st – 12 points
  • 2nd – 6 points
  • 3rd – 4 points

The big names stars attending include the incredibly talented and popular pairing of Hollie Doyle and Tom Marquand. Both have enjoyed standout seasons, with the former nominated for Sports Personality of the Year.

Her first two rides are currently priced at tempting each way odds and they look to have strong chances. You can find all the details on that pair of runners below.

12:10 – Happily Friends

Yet to score in eight career starts, but he’s run better than the bare result in the autumn months. He was a shade unlucky when third over six furlongs at Happy Valley in October, beaten under a length after being denied a clear run.

He was far from disgraced off this rating over the same course and distance last time and a drop in trip may help today. He’ll get a strong pace to aim at and Doyle has been known for her incredibly strong rides this term.

He’ll be doing all his best work in the closing stages and if getting a clear passage, he has a superb chance off this mark.

12:40 – Universal Go Go

Placing on four occasions over course and distance this year, he’s been knocking on the door and deserves to break through. All three of those near misses came off higher ratings, including a length defeat off a four-pound higher mark.

He was only collared in the late stages three starts ago and although two starts since have been disappointing, he’s capable of far better. Both his victories have come when ridden prominently and Doyle has been a master of front-running rides this season.

Drawn in Stall 5, a good break should see him landing a great position from the outset. Off a very tempting mark and with all of Doyle’s gusto behind him, a big run can be expected.

What are Doyle’s other rides?

1.40 – Sunny Lad

Bounced back from a disappointing run of form to score over course and distance last month. Stepping up to the mile really suited, cashing in on a very handy rating.

He’s now six pounds higher in a far more competitive heat, but he remains on a workable mark and couldn’t be ruled out if building on that.

2.10 – Harmony N Blessed

Doyle’s best chance on the card, he was an impressive debut scorer at Sha Tin two weeks ago. He’s set to be the hottest favourite of the evening and it’s not hard to see why, given the manner of his debut score.

He’s open to any amount of progress and this opening handicap mark looks lenient. Another big run can be anticipated and it’s no surprise that he’s the banker of the meeting for many.
