104/1 Double: Trainer who’s 2/2 at Sandown in 2024 runs two there on Thursday

Harry Charlton boasts a 100 per cent record at Sandown in 2024 and it could be significant that he sends two runners to the Surrey track on Thursday. One would appear to have a better chance than the other but you wouldn’t want to rule out a sensational double.

7.37 Sandown

Elegancia (20/1, William Hill) has a fair amount to prove after three very underwhelming efforts in Listed and Group company thus far. Her best run to date came on handicap debut at Ascot in September where she managed to score off a mark of 87.

Charlton’s filly is entitled to progress as a four-year-old but unfortunately for her, so do three of her four rivals. That being said, she’s lightly raced enough to suggest there could be more to come and her pedigree indicates that she can perform at this level.

8.12 Sandown

Kikkuli (4/1, William Hill) is yet another impeccably bred Juddmonte horse and he’s had just two starts to date. Charlton’s colt is a half-brother to Frankel and is out of John Gosden’s excellent miler Kingman. That’s certainly a pedigree that’s hard to ignore and it’ll be interesting to see how far he can go.

The form of his second on debut last season looks solid as impressive Dante winner Economics was back in fourth that day. He went one better on his first start at three and the step up to a mile looks likely to suit here. This colt is obviously bred to be special and he should be up to winning this.
