Dante Festival Tips Day One

A mile and a half handicap gets the meeting underway where in recent years it’s paid to follow four year olds carrying 8st12lbs or less, as the previous four renewals have gone the way of a horse fitting those credentials.

Two races over six furlongs next, the first is a handicap prior to the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes. It always attracts quality horses, with Tasleet and Harry Angel the most recent winners being proper top level sprinters.

An Oaks trial up next with the Musidora Stakes over a mile and quarter where it’s one of the final opportunities for fillies to cement their place in the Epsom market ahead of the next classic. The last horse to do the double was Sariska back in 2009, but John Gosden tends to target a good one here, winning five of the last eight.

A seven furlong handicap for three year olds precedes a sprint for juveniles ahead of another mile and a half handicap to end the card.
