Breeders Cup – Our Thoughts on Saturday’s Runners

Plenty of British and Irish raiders due to take part Saturday in the first ever Breeders Cup from Keeneland so here we go with a pen picture of each of them – exclusive insight from our man over in the States!

Legatissimo (Filly & Mare Turf – 6.10pm)

Amazing form and our idea of horse of the year. Three wins and two short head 2nds in her last five runs – all at Group 1 level. Hasn’t been given the credit she deserves but softer going may not be in her favour.

Secret Gesture (Filly & Mare Turf – 6.10pm)

Ralph Beckett trained, she would have Each Way chances with a decent draw – which she didn’t get in the twelve stall. Proved she can travel with a hard done by disqualified win at Arlington last time and stays further.

Talmada (Filly & Mare Turf – 6.10pm)

Looks outclassed on all known form but ran best race to date when runner up to Curvy at Woodbine. Deserves her place but a few pounds short.

Mondialiste (Mile – 7.30pm)

Although he handles some cut in the ground ought to be seriously outclassed here. Did win last time out in a Woodbine Grade 1 but t hat was Group 3 level at best back home and ought to find a few too good.

Time Test (Mile – 8.10pm)

Roger Charlton must be thinking he has upset someone with rain possibly ruining Time Test’s chances – needs firm ground. Impressive as anything seen this season in Tercententary Stakes but may struggle to repeat on ground.

Breeders Cup Friday Thoughts

Waterloo Bridge (Juvenile – 8.10pm)

Strange things happen but will need to if Waterloo Bridge is to win Juvenile on dirt over a mile plus. Beaten four and a half lengths into 2nd in Tattersall Millions and that shouldn’t be good enough to win this.

Golden Horn (Turf – 8.50pm)

The Breeders Cup Turf is all about Golden Horn and his farewell before a new career as a stallion. Class act in the field – Derby, Eclipse Stakes, Irish Champion Stakes & Arc wins – ten lengths ahead of rivals. Soft ground is not in his favour making him poor value on the odds.

Found (Turf – 8.50pm)

Decent filly at her best, even if that has been very rare this season. She will handle the ground far better than Golden Horn and at much bigger odds.

Gleneagles (Classic – 9.35pm)

Last race of a superb weekend – can Gleneagles handle the dirt? With no evidence either way it’s a guess but price is large for a dual 2,000 Guineas winner. It’s a vintage year with American Pharoah & Frosted in the field too but he needed his return to action at Ascot and will be fully fit now.
