The 20/1 shot that can give Jonbon a run for his money in the Tingle Creek

The Tingle Creek Chase takes place at Sandown on Saturday and it’s a highlight of the National Hunt calendar. This Grade 1 event has attracted just eight runners at the five-day stage and odds-on favourite Jonbon is unsurprisingly the one to beat.

3.00 Sandown (Saturday)

Master Chewy (20/1, William Hill) was in the process of running a fair race in the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival before taking an unfortunate tumble at the third-last. It’s obviously unlikely that he would have laid a glove on the winner but if he’d finished third, fourth or fifth it would have been a respectable performance.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’ gelding the was a good winner of a Grade 2 novice chase at Kempton over Christmas and the form looks rock-solid. The second went on to win the Scilly Isles at Sandown in February and is currently rated 148.

Arguably his best effort came at Aintree in the spring and he was just a head behind Found A Fifty in the Grade 1 Maghull Novices’ Chase.

He looked tired when fading to finish fourth in a handicap at Ascot on seasonal debut and is entitled to improve for the run. The winner of that £100,000 race is now rated 151 and was in receipt of 20lb from Master Chewy that day.

Edwardstone and Boothill have been beaten by Jonbon multiple times and are consequently of little interest here. Henry de Bromhead’s Quilixios has a bit more potential but Master Chewy represents some potential value at the prices and could run a big race.
