‘Track experience pays’ – Charlie Sharp’s Glorious Goodwood Day 1 Lucky 15

Mogul wins at Glorious Goodwood

Glorious Goodwood kicks off on Tuesday and we have a seven-race feast to look forward to. Guest tipster and Goodwood local Charlie Sharp has picked out his four best bets on Day 1 which are well worth considering. We’ve combined them into a Lucky 15 that isn’t to be missed! Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.25 Goodwood

After just one run Aomori City finished an admirable 3rd in the July Stakes at Newmarket behind Whistlejacket 19 days ago. He didn’t quite have the pace to put it up to the sprinters that day and his breeding suggests that the extra furlong won’t be a problem. Charlie Appleby’s colt would have learnt a lot that day and it would be no surprise to see him put up a career-best performance here.

3.00 Goodwood

Kinross could become the first horse to win the race three times and his record here is one to boast about. Goodwood is a track where experience pays and not many horses run 7f at Goodwood better than him. The second half of the Flat season is where Kinross finds his best form with 13 of his 14 best performances coming between July and October. He wasn’t given a chance when running in the July Cup Stakes 17 days ago and I believe that the run was in preparation for him to win a third Lennox Stakes.

5.20 Goodwood

Arisaig was a respectable 8th in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing 3rd in her group. In her last run, Arisaig finished 3rd at Newmarket over 7f and the extra furlong here will be ideal. Jamie Spencer takes the ride and the ever-patient jockey should be able to smuggle her into the race perfectly. A low draw is vital at Goodwood and there will be no excuses from stall three.

5.55 Goodwood

Executive Decision won this race last year off a mark of 84 and she backed up that success with another win after her mark was increased to 90. Her latest fourth-place finish at Ascot was a fair effort and the form has received a boost. She’s back down to a mark of 86 and I’m hoping that Jamie and Saffie Osbourne have a second success at Glorious Goodwood in their sights with this filly.
