It’s a long and expensive trip from Harry & Roger Charlton’s Wiltshire yard to Newcastle and not one to be taken lightly. Therefore it could be significant that they’re set to send just one runner on the long journey up to the North East on Tuesday. The pair have two winners from their 10 runners at the track so far this season. Connections will be hoping for some compensation and won’t want to come home empty-handed. Primeval is the runner in question and the market is currently expecting a big run. This Juddmonte filly is as well bred as you would expect. Her half-brother Time Test won two Group 2s for Roger Charlton but she appears to be a speedier type. Still only thrice-raced, there could be loads more to come.
She looked like a smart prospect when winning her first two starts over 6f. The first of those wins came at Doncaster and three of the next four home have all won since. It’s also hard to knock the form of her victory at Windsor next time as the second won his next two starts. Solray re-opposes here and he was a comfortably beaten third that day who bolted up next time out. That rival will need more than 2lb to turn the tables on that evidence.
Primeval appeared not to get home when fourth on handicap debut at Kempton last time. Harry & Roger Charlton’s charge was also slightly hampered that day and can be excused. The return to 6f is a big positive and she’s well worth giving another go off this mark.
