4.55pm Newmarket Tips & Betting Preview 26/08/2016

A good prize is up for grabs in the 1m5f fillies’ handicap on Friday’s Newmarket card. Read our horse-by-horse race preview for our betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: Only six runners have been declared for this fillies’ handicap but it’s a tricky puzzle to solve. At first glance, Perestroika ran very well when a very close second at Salisbury a couple of weeks ago but she was being niggled along for much of that contest and only began to make headway when those that raced closer to the strong pace began to tire. Lady Makfi has been in superb form on the AW for her new stable this season but the burning question is whether she can transfer her improvement to turf. Purple Magicbids to complete a hat-trick but enjoyed the run of the race when winning her latest start. Consequently, it could be worth chancing FASHION PARADE, who needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort over 1m6f last time but had shaped as though this sort of trip will suit when winning over shorter distances beforehand.

1 Perestroika – Finished well and went very close when second to an unexposed rival in a valuable fillies handicap at Salisbury (1m4f, good to firm) a fortnight ago; good chance on that bare form but she was never travelling well that day and made her headway when others were flagging.

2 Kiltara – Created good impression when making all at Beverley (1m4f, good) in September but ended last season with a disappointing performance and has also looked out of sorts on both starts this year; not written off just yet but has a point to prove.

3 Lady Makfi – Lightly raced 4yo who is 4-5 for new stable this season; has gained all the wins on the AW and was disappointing on soft turf on the other occasion but she might still be progressing and has an obvious chance if she handles fast turf here.

4 Fashion Parade – Won her maiden at Brighton (1m2f, good) in June, her third start, and followed up when allowed to set a moderate pace on handicap debut at Windsor (11.6f, good to firm) last month; flopped when upped to 1m6f for latest outing but something might have been amiss that day and she remains of interest over this sort of trip.

5 Purple Magic – Suited by step up to 1m6f when scoring by 5f at Catterick (soft ground) in June, her third handicap, and now bids for a hat-trick after making all at Newbury (13.3f, good to firm) last month; another 6lb higher today but needs to be taken very seriously.

6 Great And Small – Well beaten in first two maidens (1m/1m2f) but displayed significant improvement to win at Chester (12.3f, good) last month; the value of that form is open to question but stamina is evidently her strong suit and she might progress again in handicaps.
