25/1 double: Ed Dunlop sends two on the 745-mile round trip to Ayr on Monday

Newmarket-based trainer Ed Dunlop doesn’t send runners up to Ayr very often in recent years and it’s easy to see why. It’s a 745-mile round trip to the Scottish track and that explains why he’s had just the four runners there in the last five seasons.

3.50 Ayr

Cue’s Beau (6/1, bet365) absolutely bolted up when winning her maiden at Nottingham in May and has therefore been a little disappointing in her three subsequent starts. The shedding of her maiden tag came off the back of three consecutive seconds and she dealt with the soft ground well.

The handicapper didn’t overreact and she made her handicap debut off 75, when finishing third in a four-runner event at Kempton in January. Now down to a mark of 70, there’s every chance a return to form could be on the cards.

5.50 Ayr

Philos (11/4, bet365) kept on well enough when second behind an impressive winner at Newcastle when last seen but a 1lb rise is probably a little harsh. His last win came over 1m4f at Kempton in November and he’s currently on a 5lb higher mark.

He’s yet to win on turf but having only had three starts on grass, it’s too early to suggest he doesn’t act on it. The four-year-old son of Teofilo should be very competitive here and it’ll be a bit of a surprise if he can’t make his presence felt in this field.
