1.50pm Haydock Tips & Betting Preview 08/09/2017

Just the seven runners now thanks to the late withdrawal of Roger Varian’s La Diva but an intriguing Novice Stakes over close to a mile here sees some lightly raced horses go to post so read on for our race preview and selection ahead of the 1.50pm at Haydock Friday afternoon.

IN SUMMARY: A hard race to gauge with forecast favourite La Diva out of the race, but it may be worth a little look at BECKTON (Each Way) this afternoon. She is related to plenty of winners at up to Group class and won’t need to be anywhere near as good as them to win this race with Cavatina the obvious danger in this field.

1 AMAZING MICHELE – Richard Fahey’s daughter of Mastercraftsman ran a race full of promise on her debut when a three and three-quarter length fourth to Narcos at Doncaster over seven furlongs, but failed to improve as much as expected when stepped up to the mile at the same track last time out. She was six lengths adrift of the winner at the line and looks to need to offer up a lot more in this field to get competitive, though at least the yard are in decent form with 14% winners thanks to fourteen victories from one hundred and two runners in the last fourteen days.

2 BECKTON – Unraced at present and making her racecourse debut for trainer Robyn Brisland and a top value purchase when you look at her breeding. A daughter of Finjaan, she is related to some smart sorts such as Group Three winner Chigun and three-time winner Ovett, and won’t need to be a world beater to get involved in the finish here.

3 CAVATINA – Cheveley Park Stud own the daughter of Lethal force who caught they eye on her debut when fourth on the Kempton polytrack when staying on late without ever threatening the leaders. Easy to back on the day and sent off at odds of 14/1, she was close to five lengths short of the winner that day but looked the sort to improve considerably for the experience as do many of the William Haggas juveniles, and with the stable continuing in great form with plenty of winners and a level stakes profit of over twelve points in the two weeks, her chance is there for all to see.

4 COAST GUARD – Although third on her only race to date, Tom Dascombe’s daughter of Harbour Watch was beaten close to nine lengths that day and has to do considerably more to get involved this afternoon. She was well backed on the day at Chester and sent off an 11/4 shot suggesting connections felt they had her fit enough to do herself justice and there may not be as much improvement to come as some may think. On the other hand, one bad run can be excused, though the race is not working out that well as yet and she will need to improve considerably if she wants to win here.

5 FLEETING FREEDOM – The Equiano filly steps up in trip to the mile for the first time this afternoon after some decent efforts over seven furlongs, but is still a maiden after four starts with a two and a half-length fifth at Newmarket in July the best of them. Last time out she was a four and three-quarter length third of four at the same track when looking very one paced close home and she could do better for the added distance but has had her chances and may be better off in a nursery next time out.

7 MISS PERCEPTION – Well beaten in both races to date and by wide margins as well with an eleven and a half-length eighth at Pontefract and a seventeen length eleventh at Doncaster when stepped up to seven furlongs and being readily outpaced. She looks to be the Tom Dascombe first string with Richard Kingscote riding but is impossible to make a case for on what she has shown on the track so far.

8 RAYNA’S WORLD – After a running on debut sixth at Doncaster Philip Kirby’s daughter of Poet’s Voice showed the benefit of that experience when running on again in to third at Ripon over this trip, beaten four lengths at the line. She will be finishing fast and late again here but may need even further in time and may find a few of these have a bit too much speed for her this afternoon.
