This is a Class 5 Novice Stakes raced over 5f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: There was plenty to like about DANDY’S BEANO at Nottingham last time out and she can go one better today and gain her first success. She showed plenty of improvement from her first to second run and she can progress past these at the expense of the likely pace-setter Arcavallo who should make a bold bid under a penalty.
ARCAVALLO – Shoulders a 6lb penalty following a 2 1/2 length victory over C&D last time out. That was his first attempt at the minimum trip and it clearly suited having made every single yard of the running and keeping all of his rivals at bay. He will be ridden the same way today and should serve it up to his rivals off of top weight. Has to enter calculations in this for a yard in form.
UNDERCOVER BROTHER – David O’Meara’s runner also carries a 6lb penalty following a head success in a Class 4 Novice Stakes race at Hamilton back in June. He went close over the same C&D next time out, but he has been dropped back into Novice Stakes company today following a sizeable defeat in a Class 3 handicap last time out. He is likely to be prominent and may challenge for the lead early on.
BARNEY BULLET – £16,000 two-year-old purchase earlier this year and he makes his racecourse debut today. The yard aren’t known for first time out winners, let alone two-year-olds, yet this son of Havana Gold could be useful enough in time. The yard have sent out two winners from their last four runners so he’s worth a second look in the betting.
BONAZA BOWLS – Was purchased for £18,000 as a two-year-old and he makes his racecourse debut here. He’s related to some particularly average sorts and he may just need this run if his dam’s progeny are anything to go by. However, this yard can ready a two-year-old so market support should be taken as significant.
TALE OF TAILS – Ran an almighty race on racecourse debut at Nottingham when second of 11 having been sent off 100/1. He wasn’t beaten all that far in a decent enough event at Newcastle last time out and he’s dropped right down in trip today which is a strange move on breeding. A useful claimer is booked, but this trip may not bring the best out of him. Best watched.
BIDDY BRADY – Tim Easterby’s filly was picked up for £18,000 and she ran a modest race on racecourse debut over C&D earlier this month. She will improve plenty for that run and she is of interest today on a slightly quicker surface for a yard that are currently operating at a 13% strike rate. She should have the pace to be competitive in this and she warrants respect.
DANDY’S BEANO – Finished half a length behind a useful looking sort at Nottingham last time out and she should be a major player in this. She clearly improved from her first to second run and the yard are in sensational form at present, with a 28% strike rate in the past fortnight. The ground is a fare bit quicker today than it was last time out but, if she progresses again, she should be in contention.
HONEY GG – Has been beaten a fair way on both of her career starts and Declan Carroll’s filly looks as if she will need more time before being seen to best effect. She has been sent off 50/1 and 66/1 respectively and she shouldn’t be far off that in the betting again today. Best watched.
NAVARRA PRINCESS – €6,500 purchase as a yearling, she needs to do more to win this. She was beaten 8 3/4 lengths last time out in a decent enough Thirsk Novice Stakes race and this does represent a drop in grade. However, she doesn’t look as progressive as some of her rivals and may be best watched with handicaps in mind.
STARK REALITY – Nigel Tinkler’s once raced Arcano filly was beaten 22 lengths on debut at Doncaster in July and she’s unlikely to win this. She clearly needed the run that day and she may need more experience and time before finding herself in a winnable event. Andrew Mullen replaces Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle today.
