Qipco 2,000 Guineas: Can anything beat Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Troy?

The first Classic of the season is here! The Qipco 2,000 Guineas will be run at Newmarket Racecourse at 3.35 on Saturday, and it is a cracking renewal on paper despite there being just 11 runners. As ever, you can find our free horse racing tips on the website. Let’s take a closer look at the Saturday feature in more detail below.

Can anything beat Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Troy?

The short answer is yes of course something could beat City Of Troy. Last year, Auguste Rodin went to the 2,000 Guineas with an enormous reputation and he was tailed off before going on to win the Derby at Epsom. However, the way O’Brien speaks about City Of Troy is unusual. He has always hinted that this horse could be the best he’s ever had and he might just be! It’s a tricky race from a betting perspective because he is a pretty short price, but opposers could end up looking silly if he wins doing handstands, which is possible.

Any lively outsiders to consider?

Despite being second-favourite, Rosallion looks like City Of Troy’s biggest danger and he’s a decent each-way price too. He won a Group 1 in France to round off his campaign last year, beating Unquestionable who went on to win at the Breeders’ Cup a month later. The form looks strong and Hannon said this is the best horse he has ever trained. Of the others, Ghostwriter might be able to run into a place. He is unbeaten and has strong track form so he ticks plenty of boxes too. It could be a brilliant race.
