Perhaps the best five days of flat action anywhere in the world, Royal Ascot is the centre-piece of the flat season in Britain and plays host to the best of the best. On that fateful summer’s evening at Newmarket on the 13th of August 2010, racegoers would have been unaware of the history they’d just witnessed. Sir Henry Cecil’s Frankel missed the kick that day, but powered home to beat Nathaniel, with the pair pulling a long way clear. That maiden form turned out quite strong, you could say!

With plenty of two-year-old performers making their debut at Newmarket and the bigger venues this summer, there is a big chance that you could bare witness to a Group 1 winner in the making. Perhaps seeing the next Frankel, however, is a shade ambitious!
