5.45pm Carlisle Tips & Betting Preview 29/08/2017

A five furlong nursery with just under £4,000 to the winner. Our runner by runner preview and expert tip for the 5.45pm at Carlisle on Tuesday evening is below.

IN SUMMARY: LINA’S STAR has shown enough in three maidens at tracks with uphill finishes similar to this to think that she will find plenty of improvement on her handicap debut. Rossall represents a yard having an excellent season and he looks another who will improve now that he steps into handicap company. Mable Lee won on her nursery debut last time, the third has won since so she is another to consider in a contest where plenty look worth following for the rest of the season.

1 ROSSALL – Steadily progressive in three runs for a mark, he was a little outpaced late on last time at Thirsk. The winner of that contest was runner-up in a Listed event at York last week to give the form a strong boost. This stiffer five furlongs should suit him perfectly and he smacks of one to improve this autumn with a pedigree that suggest he’ll relish softer ground. The Michael Dods yard are having their best ever season so he has a solid chance.

2 UNDERCOVER BROTHER – Well seen off the only time he tried handicap company, but that was a deeper contest at York. His best form has come on decent ground so connections will be hoping that the surface will dry out a little for him. He has run well at Hamilton and Beverley, both tracks with an uphill finish as Carlisle has so the track will suit, each way claims.

3 MAGIC MARK – Consistent form in his three outings for a mark without looking progressive. His best effort was arguably over this course and distance on debut, not as good at York twice since. The return here should help but that smart third was on considerably quicker ground so he has to prove he can cope with cut.

4 PORCHY PARTY – Best turf effort has come at Beverley which is a similar five furlong track to this. He flopped badly on handicap debut but swiftly left that running behind when going close on the all weather last time. He had cheekpieces fitted for the first time there, if they work as well the second time he has an each way chance.

5 MABLE LEE – Made a winning start to life in nurseries last time, she has a five pound rise in the weights to contend with now. The third has won since to give the form a timely boost and with her win coming on good to soft, she will have no problems with the prevailing conditions. The Iain Jardine yard are in flying form, including a win in the Ebor on Saturday. She looks a big player in this contest.

6 BROCKEY RISE – Took until the sixth time of asking to win, landing a lesser nursery to this last time out. That was over a flat six furlongs, tried over seven the time before so the drop to this trip even on a stiff track is a slight concern. Seven pounds higher and pitched into a deeper race, he should find others progressing past him here.

7 BILLIEBROOKEDIT – Absolutely tanked through the contest at Sandown last time out, failing to get home up the hill on heavy ground. Connections fit a first time hood to try and get him to conserve a little energy for the business end of the race. This is his first handicap and while he isn’t obviously well treated, the impression he gave at Sandown is of a winner sooner rather than later, holds an each way chance.

8 ROCKET MAN DAN – Showed up well on his second career run when runner-up at Ripon but that sticks out like a sore thumb compared to his other efforts. He has been gelded since he was last seen on a racecourse which has the potential to unlock some improvement, but it is going to need to for him to get involved.

9 HERMANA SANTA – Has progressed steadily in her four runs so far, running well enough on her nursery debut to think she is up to winning a small one somewhere. That was over six furlongs, just unable to quicken close home. Her full sister stays six well so the step down in trip doesn’t look a positive on paper, she may need her sights lowered a little to get her head in front.

10 LIFE FOR RENT – Has shown a similar level of form on all three starts, the pick of which is just his debut effort over this course and distance. He was two and a quarter lengths behind Magic Mark on that occasion, nine pounds better off here including jockey claims. That gives him an interesting shout with Tim Easterby often a trainer to watch with handicap debutantes.

11 LINA’S STAR – Three solid enough runs to earn her mark at Hamilton and Beverley and she should find this track to her liking and won’t have any issues with give underfoot. Ran a game second behind Arcavallo at the start of August who has since come out and won again. Could have the race run to suit with plenty early pace horses to take aim at and should go very close.
