5.30pm Yarmouth Tips & Betting Preview 17/08/2017

A field of 10 go to post in this Class 6 handicap raced over an extended 1m 3f. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: John Berry’s Hope Is High is likely to be popular today following some consistent efforts this season. However, she’s up 3lbs in the weights and may be worth taking on with ATTAIN for the Archie Watson stable. He has done well for this yard and he has dropped to a workable mark, especially with the 5lb claim of the useful Jenny Powell. He can take all the beating at a generous price.

1 BEST EXAMPLE – Races over the same conditions he faced last time out when finishing third in an eight-strong field. He was sent off 14/1 that day and showed himself to be on a workable mark, if not holding that much in-hand at the weights. He should go well again in this grade although he seeks his first win since October 2015 and there may be more value elsewhere in the field.

2 ATTAIN – Has done well for this yard with a couple of victories and a host of placed efforts. He’s just 1lb higher than his last winning mark and he has won off higher so the presence of a useful claimer makes him of real attention off what could be a generous weight. Archie Watson’s yard is flying (33% strike rate in the past fortnight) and he could have a good pace to aim at in this. Interesting.

3 TYRSAL – Was narrowly denied just over a week ago finishing second of five, beaten a head off this mark. Cameron Noble remains in the saddle today and he should go well again off this fair rating although he remains 8lbs higher than his last winning mark. The yard do relatively well here and he has to enter calculations off this mark now stepped up in trip again.

4 ALBERT BOY – Ran no sort of race last time out at Ripon but he may have been found out by the higher grade and he’s returned to Class 6 company today. He was beaten 4 3/4 lengths by Tyrsal at Leicester last month and whilst he’s weighted to get closer today, he needs to bounce back to form in a big way. Others make more appeal in this.

5 TUOLUMNE MEADOWS – Ten race maiden makes her first start for Tony Newcombe today. She finished second of eight in a Class 6 Seller at Lingfield last time out which isn’t the worst bit of form, but it’s below the standard needed here off this mark. She’s been dropped another 5lbs in the weights and the market should guide best. Martin Lane is booked to ride her today.

6 ANGELICAL – Has recorded one victory from 13 career starts which came on her seasonal reappearance earlier this season. She has run with credit since, particularly on her last start in a stronger race than this and she’s just 2lbs higher than her last winning mark. Martin Harley is a positive booking and she should go well although she’s not the safest prospect for win purposes. Others make more appeal.

7 HOPE IS HIGH – John Berry’s filly is likely to be popular in the betting today having displayed some excellent, consistent form for this level. She was narrowly denied last time out over C&D and she should be thereabouts again with Silvestre De Sousa booked to ride again. A mark of 59 will test her more though and she’s not bombproof. May be value in opposing her today.

8 ART SCHOLAR – Jamie Spencer is an interesting booking aboard Mick Appleby’s 10yo. He seeks his first win since November 2012 and he arrives here on the back of a poor run at Yarmouth last time out. He’s back up in trip today but he remains on a mark of 59 and he’s obviously regressing at a rate of knots. Market support would make him of interest though.

9 ASTROSECRET – Mark Tompkins’ filly is an 11-race maiden and it would be a surprise to see her win today. She has shown little form on the flat and was a well-beaten tenth in a 12-strong field behind Tyrsal at Leicester back in July. She has huge amounts to find with her rivals and should be well-beaten again today.

10 GALUPPI – One win from 37 starts makes for grim reading although John Jenkins’ runner hasn’t been beaten all that far this year on a few of his starts. His best run of the season arguably came last time out at Lingfield on Soft ground but conditions look much faster than he’ll want in this and others make more appeal.
