Nine runners go to post in a typically tricky handicap at Newcastle on Wednesday evening, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Out Of Order ran a good race when second at Newcastle on his second handicap mark and he has to be respected, but MAORI BOB makes far more appeal today for Michael Bell. Upped to this trip on handicap debut, he still looked green when winning at Lingfield over today’s trip and there is likely much more to come from him today. Lulu Stanford takes off 5lb and any sort of improvement is likely to see him away and clear in this, with Daily Trader likely to be fighting for a place for the inform David Evans yard.

1 MY ROSIE – Showed promise on her third maiden run when second at Lingfield in January (1m 2f, Std) but she took a backwards step on handicap debut when well beaten at Wolverhampton two weeks ago (1m 1f, Std). Still early days for this well bred daughter of Redoute’s Choice but others to make more appeal on what they have shown thus far. Rider Nick Mackay takes the ride who is firing in wins left right and centre at present, but she looks booked for a place only today.

2 GOOD TIME AHEAD – Gained his first win at the thirteenth attempt when winning well at Wolverhampton (1m 1f, Std) and he was far from disgraced when second at Lingfield a month later off a 8lb higher mark (1m 2f, Std). Back up in class today and does need more if this mark if he’s to be winning a handicap, and he does look vulnerable in a race full of improvers and unexposed sorts. Possible place claims but the win seems unlikely today.

3 OK BY ME – Showed some promise in maidens including a third at Chepstow in August (1m, Good to Soft), but was well beaten on nursery debut (1m 2f, Good to Soft) and this mark of 67 doesn’t look an obvious gift on all weather debut. Granted, the David Evans yard are in form at present, but this three year old by Arcano looks very unlikely to add to that tally and she is best left alone today.

4 DAILY TRADER – Showed little in maidens but burst into life at Southwell in December on handicap debut when second (1m, Std) and he again improved on that to win over the same C&D a month later in fine style. That win gave the definite indication that much more can be expected in time and this step up in trip looks likely to suit with how strongly he kept on over the mile last time out. He ahs to cope with an 8lb rise in a tougher race though, and although he does have very live place claims, he may just struggle for win purposes off this mark.

5 OUT OF ORDER – Has improved for the switch into handicaps, finishing a good fourth here on handicap debut in January (7f, Std) and his effort a month later over the mile was another progressive display, finishing half a length behind in second. The step up in trip looks likely to suit and he is still very much unexposed for Tim Easterby, with the fact he remains on the same mark from his last run another big positive. Likely to be involved as long as his stamina holds out and he has to be respected under James Sullivan.

6 MAORI BOB – Showed glimmers of hope in maidens but he came to life on his latest start when upped in trip in handicap company, coming home a game winner at Lingfield last week (1m 2f, Std). He still looked very green on that run, distracted up the home straight but got the job done under a good ride by today’s rider, 5lb claimer Lulu Stanford. He remains with any amount of potential for Michael Bell and remaining on the same mark for today’s run, he looks likely to be hard to stop. Any improvement should take him past these and he has to be respected as such.

7 LADOFASH – Hasn’t been improving which is of immediate concern against some of these and his latest run leaves him with work to do, finishing three lengths behind Out Of Order here two weeks ago (1m, Std). His pedigree suggests the step up to this trip should suit which gives him a chance and he can’t be fully discounted, now down to a mark of 60 which could be generous by the handicapper. Potential for a place but he’s likely to find at least one to good in this.

8 WHATELSEABOUTYOU – Another with work to do after finishing two lengths behind Maori Bob at Lingfield last week (1m 2f, Std), and connections reach for cheekpieces. She looks unlikely to be reversing the form with the aforementioned rival who gave indications that he had lots left in the locker, with Richard Fahey’s three year old not progressing at quite that rate. Paul Hanagan takes the ride but she doesn’t look the obvious winner.

9 OUR LOIS – Showed her best form when fourth at Ayr in July (7f, Good to Soft) but she is yet to build upon that effort, well beaten on two subsequent runs. She had excuses when tailed off at Southwell last week (1m, Std) but she does have a huge amount to do off a mark of 55, which doesn’t look to have her well handicapped. Connections reach for the visor and she goes up in trip which isn’t an obvious move considering her pedigree. Others make far more appeal.
