The opener on Sedgefield’s card is an interesting 2m Novices Hurdle. See our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Prime Venture displayed oodles of promise in two bumpers last season and is an interesting recruit to hurdling, but MIDDLEBROW also won a bumper and posted a decent effort on hurdles/stable debut last month. He has the advantage of race fitness and hurdles experience so should be able to put it to good use and get off the mark over obstacles.

1 BOLLIN ACE – 0-7 over hurdles but isn’t to be taken lightly as he was a good 2nd in the series final back in March (2m4f, Soft). Drop back in trip shouldn’t be an issue and although he’s the most exposed, he could pose a serious threat. Place claims.

2 CARBRAGH – All 3 hurdles start thus far have been devoid of any promise, can’t recommend.

3 CA LE FERRA – Crashed out with a heavy fall at Kelso on hurdles debut back in March (2m2f, Good to Soft). Placed in two bumpers but still needs to improve to get competitive here and probably will struggle to land a blow.

4 FREE STONE HILL – Decent start to life over obstacles when 3rd at Worcester last month, weakening out of contention from 2 out (2m4f, Good). Skelton’s yard is going well and should build on that run, but the drop back in trip isn’t sure to suit and may be running on too late.

5 MIDDLEBROW – Won an Irish bumper at Ballinrobe in May for Elizabeth Doyle and made a good start to hurdling life when a close 3rd on stable for Donald McCain at Kelso (2m, Good to Soft). Was quite keen that race and should have learned a lot from that run, with the ground being ideal for him today. With the advantage of race fitness and hurdling experience over his main market rival Prime Venture, he may well manage to get off the mark over obstacles.

6 PRIME VENTURE – Showed significant promise when winning on bumper debut at Ffos Las (1m7f, Heavy) and then 8th in a much more competitive event at Newbury back in March (2m, Soft). Interesting recruit to hurdling and should go well, but there is a slight question mark as to whether the ground is soft enough for him.
