Fakenham Racecourse is located in Norfolk, about 50 miles northwest of Norwich. A National Hunt only track, it has enjoyed Royal patronage for the majority of its 110 year history. It is a typically quirky jumps only track in the mould of Plumpton and Fontwell and course specialists are often the ones to follow.
Fakenham Betting Tips
A tight left-handed track, almost square in shape, the course is only a mile round. Fakenham racecourse represents a stern jumping test for chasers, especially with the fences coming up quickly off the bends. Both tracks have a very short run. The chase course has to move left round an elbow. This is due to a fence being located almost directly on the winning line. The fence in front of the stand provides an excellent chance for the crowd to get up close and personal with an obstacle. It is one that all jockeys are desperate to clear safely in order to save the ignominy of being unshipped in front of the crowd.
The nature of the course being as sharp as it is often lures front runners to go too quickly. The long run from the 2nd last on the side straight to the final obstacle in the home straight will often favour those ridden with a little more restraint. Fakenham racecourse is not a track for a plodder. However, there is a real need to be able to travel, with much of the time spent on the turn. Therefore, a smaller, nippy type is preferred to a larger, more galloping animal.
