Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 28th January 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

With a 22% strike rate in the last two weeks and eight winners including the hugely impressive Bristol De Mai (who landed the Charity bet last weekend), Nigel is in good form and we spoke to him this morning as he drove to the races at Taunton about his chances over the weekend.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

Tintern Theatre 2.45pm Utttoxeter – Best Odds Guaranteed

A £50 win bet will be placed with any returns being donated to the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Saturday runners:

Dawn Missile 12.50pm Doncaster

“He seems to have plenty of weight in my view on what he has actually achieved so far, but the ground should suit him ideally and he won’t be disgraced. I am hopeful more than confident but he ought to go well regardless.”

Oh Michelle 4.15pm Doncaster

“She has done absolutely nothing wrong so far and looks the form horse to me, and the one they all have to beat. You can never be sure what they are really up against in these bumpers and there could be a flying machine hiding somewhere, but she will go well and looks solid for the places at the very least – though I’m pretty hopeful she can do even better than that!”

Tintern Theatre 2.45pm Uttoxeter

“First time in a handicap for the six-year-old who has won a novice and finished fourth last time out, He seems to be improving all the time and as it is difficult for them to win again in a novice event with a penalty we are dipping our toes in to the water to see if the handicapper has him right – or not. I’m hoping he is a bit better than his rating and expect him to go really well again here.”

Foxtail Hill 1.10pm Cheltenham

“He is a very nice horse and I think a lot of him. He won nicely last time out at Kempton and has been put up nine pounds but Jamie Bargary claims three of those back so all is not lost. Better still he lost a lot of ground jumping to his left that day so ought to be a lot happier around this track and could surprise a few with a decent run.”

Wholestone 3.25pm Cheltenham

“He hasn’t done anything wrong all season with three wins and a second and although he could possibly be better over further than this two and a half miles, the ground can be pretty sticky when they take off the frost covers here, and if he gets some testing ground he won’t be far away again this afternoon.”

Ballyoptic 4.00pm Cheltenham

“He has been a little unlucky lately and was looking likely to make a decent race of it with Unowhatimeanharry when falling at the last at Newbury last month. He meets that rival on four pounds better terms today and he seems in great form at home so I have to be pretty hopeful he can win his fifth race over hurdles on only his eighth start.”

Robinshill 4.35pm Cheltenham

“He was a bit unlucky last time out at Sandown when nearly coming down at the last and losing his lead to be beaten three quarters of a length at the line. He has been put up six pounds for that but once again Jamie Bargary claims three pounds back and I’m expecting a big run barring any errors.”
