MUMGOS DEBUT may have struggled to put his best foot forward of late, though this drop in class represents a big opportunity for the five-time chase winner. After a reasonable performance in a better race last time out, the gelding, who could very easily regain the winning thread for a trainer who has been in fine form of late, looks a tad overpriced and is thus worthy of each-way support. John Williams, who has done well in recent times, rates as the main danger.

Mumgos Debut
J: Derek Fox T: Lucinda Russell
Lucinda Russell’s runner, who has previously won five times over fences, comes here in relatively poor form, though this is easier than the gelding’s last assignment. Hasn’t been in great form since winning at Perth back in September 2017; however, his mark has since fallen, while he runs in a race here that looks very winnable.

J: Tony Kelly T: Rebecca Menzies
Six wins and seven places from 20 runs over the larger obstacles, Rebecca Menzies’ nine-year-old, who enjoyed a tremendous 16/17 season, has struggled to find his feet since returning to action this season, though he’s probably not one to give up on. Has plenty of form in the book and now runs from a mark that is 1lb below his last winning one.

J: Rachael McDonald T: Sandy Thomson
Sandy Thomson’s runner, who boasts a win rate of 25% over fences, is one of the more in-form runners in this line-up. The gelding found his feet nicely when winning a Class 5 event at Hexham on reappearance, while he kept on thriving when coming home in front in a Musselburgh Class 4 in November. Hasn’t won since but has continued to perform well, especially when finishing a close-up second at Musselburgh after 88-day break last time out.

J: Jamie Hamilton T: Sandy Forster
One win and three places from just seven starts over fences, Sandy Forster’s nine-year-old has shown plenty of promise as a chaser at this level, one who remains somewhat unexposed. In better company, ran a good race over C&D last week despite doing a bit too much in front. A similar performance would likely see the gelding feature prominently.
Harleys Max silk
Harleys Max
J: James Corbett T: Susan Corbett
Fairly consistent performer, who has won three times over fences. Won his penultimate race when getting up late in the day at Newcastle and continued to run well when finishing second at that venue last time out. Fitness concerns with the gelding coming here off the back of a 448-day break, though could get involved if up for it on reappearance.
Las Tunas silk
Las Tunas
J: Richie McLernon T: R. Mike Smith
Michael Smith’s six-year-old has turned into a consistent performer of late, one who has placed in each of his last three races. Has only won win to his name over fences, but the gelding has been performing as though that may change soon. Should continue to run well and this race is perhaps slightly easier than his last, though the fact that he doesn’t show the best attitude at the end of races is a concern.
Duhallowcountry silk
J: Thomas Dowson T: Victor Thompson
Out-of-form veteran, who will do well to even get close here. It’s been a while since Victor Thompson’s runner last got his head in front, while he’s failed to get competitive since winning at Sedgefield nine starts ago. If recent form is anything to go by, then the 12-year-old won’t be winning this race.
