Pau racecourse is located in the southwest of France. Built in 1842, this course is a galloping, open venue with a 2 kilometre grass track and a 2.25 kilometre fibersand track.

Pau Tips:

At the Pau racecourse, both National Hunt and Flat racing occur throughout the year. The jumping game is the more notable of the two around here, with roughly 70% of races happening over obstacles, but there is some good quality flat action on offer as well. Most of the France Galop cards are between December and February, with a few April meetings dedicated to steeple-chase events.

The French horse racing experts at myracing are on hand to study all of the form, watch the race replays and make their betting predictions. All of the free horse racing tips will be available on our website the night before racing and if you want to find out exactly when the selections have gone live, check out the twitter page @myracingtips for further details.

Pau Major Races:

The most famous race during the Pau calendar is the Grade 2 Grand Prix de Pau, a steeple-chase contest run over three-miles and two furlongs. With more than €100,000 in total prize-money, it tends to attract some talented horses and Forthing, trained by former champion jockey and now master trainer David Cottin, has won the last two renewals. A number of other good quality races are on show throughout the season but none would have the prestige held by the Grand Prix de Pau.

Pau Best Trainers & Jockeys:

In terms of both winners and prize money won, David Cottin is the top trainer at Pau. In 2019, his National Hunt horses won 25 races with a further 51 placed horses from only 98 runners. Hugely impressive figures to go along with the Grand Prix de Pau victory in January. You can’t go far wrong in keeping the Cottin stable on your side when betting at Pau and nobody else comes close to them here.

The jockey’s leaderboard had a much tighter look to it in 2019 with both Thomas Beaurain and Jonathan Plouganou tied on 12 winners, the first mentioned coming out on top due to 31 placed horses versus 30 for the runner-up – it couldn’t get much closer than that! They were well clear of the remainder and look set for another big season.
