Nigel Twiston-Davies – My Runners 15th & 16th April 2017

Nigel Twiston-Davies Weekly Column

Well after an exciting weekend and an excellent fourth in the Grand National from the stable’s well backed Blaklion we have a return to normality this weekend though plenty of runners to discuss so down to business. For those interested Nigel was very proud of the run from Blaklion who has returned home safe and sound, and will be back in the track when a suitable race is found.

Nigel’s Charity Bet

As always, we’ve given Nigel a £50 charity bet to place on a horse of his choice – and this weekend the money will be on…..

4.55pm Saturday – Kilronan High to win.

“Ignore the official going descriptions for her last two races, the bottom line is she likes this better ground and unseated in both her runs recently after reaching the end of her tether on a softer surface. I am expecting a much better effort now and she looks decent value at the early odds, and I am happy making her the charity bet this week.”

If Kilronan High scores, we’ll donate the winnings to the Injured Jockeys Fund!

Saturday’s Other Runners:

Ballybolley 2.05pm Haydock

“Well he won the race last year so has to come back here looking to double up and as I have him in good very form at home I have to be pretty hopeful. He does have an added four pounds to carry this year but I am very confident he will put up a solid effort.”

Muckle Roe 2.40pm Haydock

“He is in good heart at home and although this is serious step up in class he has been improving all season and hopefully her has a shout though I am the first to admit this is a big ask for him today.”

Lagawara 3.50pm Haydock

“She will hopefully run well though this isn’t going to be an easy race to win and I have to be more hopeful than I am confident”

Wicked Willy 4.20pm Haydock

“He has already won a couple for me this season and placed on numerous other occasions but his consistency does mean handicapper has got hold of him but we have to try when there is this much prize money up for grabs.”

Northandsouth 5.50pm Stratford

“He has been more than a little disappointing over fences recently so I am bringing him back over hurdles today, Another who will appreciate the better ground he has a squeak this afternoon, but it is a tough race.”

Aldeburgh 6.05pm Brighton

“I keep saying it but he has been waiting for the quicker ground as well and has a good chance here as it seems reasonable to suggest this is not the strongest race ever see at Brighton.”

Bendomingo 7.50pm Stratford

“He keeps on running well and the handicapper refuses to show any generosity so what can you do? He will try hard, will prefer the better ground, but may need to drop a few pounds before he wins again.”

Sunday’s runners:

Guiting Power 2.25pm Ffos Las

“I can’t deny he is a bit disappointing and there are no guarantees today but again the better ground may help to awaken his abilities and he could at least do a bit better here.”

Woodfort 4.05pm Ffos Las

“I get the feeling I have been running him on the wrong ground lately and I am hopeful of a good showing here and a place at the very least.”

Count Meribel 4.40pm Ffos Las

“One of my better chances on Sunday and he really hasn’t done anything wrong recently other than failing to get to the front where it really matters. I can only hope he can change all that here where again, the better ground can help his chances.”

Cogry 5.15pm Ffos Las

“This looks a great race for him over three and a half miles but of all my runners he is the one who wouldn’t mind a bit more rain this weekend. That seems unlikely but he never stops trying and he will not be disgraced.”
